Velikovsky, Venus, and the Morning Star

Thanks sha'ul, ill give the book a read, found a pdf online ;)

I have only heard of sitchen, but i have been meaning to read his work, i heard that he thought that the object that caused the exodus was the planet venus, came in as a comet, then found its current orbit, after taking the atomosphare off some of our neigbouring planets?

which could explain why the morning star is so prominent in a lot of prophacy, and why jerusalem was originally known as the city of Venus! also the morning star is mentioned in kolbrin prophacy concerning the good religion.

Kolbrin quote

While other beliefs appeal for mercy or aid, or beg forgiveness or seek to appease, declaring man to be weak and pitiful, the Good Religion will come to his aid like a life-giving elixir. Its advent will be the morning star heralding a new brighter day and in the light of that day man will know himself for what he really is and will do the things he must do. He will then no longer be a child walking in darkness and ignorance, wringling his hands and crying because he is so weak and wicked. He will no longer crawl in the dust of servile humility, begging for mercy or for another to bear the burden of his sins. In the light of the new dawning day man will be shown what he really is, and the dawn heralds will declare his divinity. Then, from out of the dust long-gathered in the darkness the new man will arise and stride resolutely forward towards the sunrise.

Bible quote Revelation 22

The Final Message

10And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near.11“Let the one who does wrong, still do wrong; and the one who is filthy, still be filthy; and let the one who is righteous, still practice righteousness; and the one who is holy, still keep himself holy.”

12“Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.13“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”

14Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city.15Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.

16“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”

17The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.

18I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book;19and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.

20He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

21The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.

Interesting to note here

"I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these thing for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.

Its advent will be the morning star heralding a new brighter day and in the light of that day man will know himself for what he really is and will do the things he must do.

Now i know the planets have been associated with angles in the past, a angle testifying, a new light hearalding a brighter day

I just realised it was not sitchen, but Dr Immanuel Velikovsky

Velikovsky and his theory is now well accepted…

Myth Versus Mathematics

Velikovsky’s Theory

The explanation of the plagues of Egypt and the dividing of the Sea of Passage at the time of the Exodus of the Israelites as natural phenomena was not accepted by Dr. Immanuel Velikovsky. He saw these events as the first manifestation of the early states of a cosmic catastrophe which struck the whole earth and which reached its zenith 52 years later when, as Joshua was pursuing the Canaanites, “the sun stood still in the midst of heaven and did not go down about a whole day.”

On a day some time in the middle of the second millennium BCE, the earth either ceased to rotate or tilted over on its axis. By the advancement of this theory and by his explanation of the cause of the phenomena, Dr. Velikovsky launched a formidable assault on the entrenched dogmas of astronomy and geology. He challenged Newton’s belief in the general orthodoxy of the universe and propounded a heresy as abhorrent to modern scientists as were the opinions of Galileo and Copernicus to medieval ecclesiastics. Heretics are no longer burnt at the stake; they are either ridiculed or ignored.

Why are Velikovsky’s theories so outrageous? If the sun stood still for a whole day, the most fundamental beliefs of astronomy are denied, for it is assumed that the earth has always rotated from west to east and it has always taken 365 days, 5 hours, and 49 minutes to go around the sun. Velikovsky claimed that the earth’s movements have been erratic, that it once ceased to revolve and that, previously, it took only 360 days to complete its orbit.

He believed that some 3,500 years ago, and again 700 years later, the earth was affected by the appearance in the sky of a giant comet which eventually became the planet Venus. The close proximity to the earth of this comet caused, at its first appearance, certain phenomena and, at its second and closer appearance, the effect of prolonged day and night in different parts of the world. Dr. Velikovsky, a scholar and not an astronomer, claimed to have found worldwide traditions of these unusual catastrophes and an Egyptian eyewitness description of the occurrences recorded in the Bible’s chapter, Exodus.

The first clue came from biblical verses which state that great stones were cast down from heaven. Taken in combination with Exodus, these statements implied an unusual state of affairs which, if they were true, must presumably have been witnessed by people other than the Israelites. If a day was prolonged in one part of the world, a long period of darkness must have prevailed elsewhere. Dr. Velikovsky found that there were many traditions of prolonged darkness in the western hemisphere, and in the eastern half of he world of a day of unusual length, both accompanied by stories of a cosmic cataclysm.

These widespread traditions suggested that the earth, at an undisclosed date, had been struck by some appalling catastrophe, the confused memory of which had been preserved in the form of myths. They seemed to recall a battle in the sky from which Venus, hitherto unknown, emerged as a planet. It is a question of myths versus mathematics.

Many of the ancient traditions of the Peruvians, Mayas, and Mexicans of America were recorded soon after the Spanish conquests. Mexican annals related that the sun did not appear for a four-fold night and that 52 years before another catastrophe had occurred. The Mayas believed that some time in the past there had been a period in which the sun’s motion had been interrupted and the waters had turned red. The sacred book of the Mayas, the Popul Vuh, says: “It was ruin and destruction… the sea was piled up… it was a great inundation… people were drowned in a sticky substance raining from the sky… the face of the earth grew dark and the gloomy rain endured days and nights… and then there was a great din of fire above their heads.” The entire population was annihilated. Other Central American myths contain stories of a deluge of sticky rain of bitumen from heaven; men were seized by madness and tried to escape it by sheltering in caverns but the caverns were suddenly closed. The cataclysm was preceded by a collision of stars and was followed by an inundation of the sea. The Peruvians had similar traditions. A pattern of legends suggest that a cosmic catastrophe resulting in a long period of darkness accompanied by tidal waves, hurricanes and by the fall of giant stones and bloody rain from the sky, preceded the appearance of a new planet.

Outside the western hemisphere there were similar stories of a prolonged day. Chinese chronologies reported that, in the time of the Emperor Yaltou: “The sun did not set for a number of days; the forests were set on fire, a high wave reaching the sky poured over the land.” The Altai Tatars spoke of a catastrophe in which “blood turned the whole world red.” The Voguls of Siberia said that “God sent a sea of fire upon the earth.”

Many ancient cosmological myths referred to a battle in the sky in which the planet god slays a sky monster, usually a dragon or a serpent. According to the Mayas: “The sun refused to show itself and during four days the world was deprived of light. Then a great star appeared and it was given the name of Quetzacoatl.” That means feathered serpent, a term which may indicate a comet with a tail. In other myths, the battle was between Bel and the Dragon, Marduk and Tiamat, Isis and Seth, Vishnu and the Serpent, and Zeus and Typhon. In the Greek myth, the final act of the sky battle takes place at Lake Serbon on the borders of Palestine and Egypt.

Other traditions and myths suggest that the new star, which disrupted the movement of the earth and caused a world conflagration, as a comet which became Venus. Pythagoreans claimed that one of the planets had been a comet, and it is variously described as having had feathers, a beard, horns, a crown of awful splendor, or as scattering its flame in fire.

Velikovsky claimed that Venus was hitherto unknown and that these traditions record its birth. The astronomical charts of the Hindus, Babylonians and Mayas, all of whom were particularly interested in astronomy, show only four planets. In the Hindu table of planets, dated 3100 BCE, Venus alone is absent, and the Babylonians named Venus “the great star that joins the other great stars.” Even more significant are the astronomical tablets of the Assyrians, found at Nineveh. They comprised the year-formula of an early king named Ammizaduza, and appear to show either obvious errors or that the orbit of Venus was previously different. Sky charts found in an Egyptian tomb dating from the period of Queen Hatshepsut show the stars in reversed orientation.

In Velikovsky’s interpretation, Venus came into conjunction with the earth and, 700 years later, with Mars. These near collisions caused the stoppage or tilting of the earth and the change in the length of the year. They also reversed the direction of the earth’s rotation. He finds proof of this in certain traditions.

In the Statesman, Plato speaks of the “changing in the rising and setting of the sun and other heavenly bodies, how in these times they used to set in the quarter where they now rise” and “at certain periods the Universe has its present circular motion, and at other periods it revolves in the reverse direction.” Herodotus was told by priests in Egypt that four times since Egypt became a kingdom “the sun rose contrary to his wont: twice he rose where he now sets and twice he sets where he now rises.” The Chinese recall that “only since a new order of things has it come about that the stars move from east to west.” The Eskimos of Greenland believed that the world had turned over. The Aztecs of Mexico, during the long period of darkness, wondered where the sun would reappear from and were surprised when it rose in the east.

Dr. Velikovsky believed that the plagues of Egypt, the pillar of cloud by day and of fire by night, and the division of the waters of the Sea of Passage (Bible: Exodus) were early manifestations of the contact as the earth brushed through the comet’s tail. Red dust and hot stones descended upon the earth and gave rise to hurricanes and tidal waves.

Exodus and the Egyptian Papyrus Ipuwer appear to refer to the same series of events as are related in the traditions of other peoples. As the earth passes through the tail of the comet (now known as Venus), red dust turns the waters red and makes them undrinkable. The heat engendered by its close proximity causes vermin, frogs, flies, and locusts to propagate at a feverish rate, the crops are destroyed by a hail of faire, darkness covers the earth, and, finally, an earthquake kills many of those who live in houses.

Those few scientists who have bothered to discuss Velikovsky’s theory reject it on the grounds that the present orbits of Venus and Mars are respectively inside and outside that of the earth. If they had intersected 2,600 years ago, and if the orbits of the earth and Venus had intersected 3,400 years ago, then, according to the laws governing planetary motions, all three would continue to pass near the points at which these encounters had taken place, which is not the case.

Velikovsky claimed that his theories could be substantiated if Venus were found to be still hot (evidence of its recent birth), enveloped in hydrocarbon clouds (remnants of its comet’s tail), and had anomalous rotational motion (evidence that it had suffered unusual perturbations before settling into its orbit as a comet).

In 1963, the space probe Mariner II confirmed that the temperature of Venus was 800 degrees Fahrenheit. It possessed a 15-mile thick envelope composed, not of carbon dioxide or water as was previously supposed, but of heavy molecules of hydrocarbons. Observations taken by the US Naval Research Laboratory indicated that Venus has a slow retrograde motion, a characteristic unique among the planets.

Whether or not Velikovsky’s basic theory is correct, which appears to be unprovable, he made several contributions to historical knowledge. Chief among these is that he has shown the need to draw upon the accumulated records of human experience.

I dont think so mate, Ive never heard, in all these years, of Jerusalem (Yerushalyim) ever been called the city of Venus. Howerver, it may have been called this by some Hellenistic group at some time. Certainly not in Jewish traddition, wich goes back 3000 years. According to The Lost book of En-ki, it was the site of the Anunnaki mission control. and the Temple Mt platform, was already there when Avraham Avinu went to sacrifice Isaac. (Yitzach).

Planet X, The Destroyer, Wormwood, cannot be Venus, as Venus is named amongst the Planets that were already in orbit in out Solars system as the Anunnaki made there way to Ki (Earth). Also, Venus appears in its current position on Sumerian, and other ancient antideluvian cultures pictograms of the Solar System. There have been at least two pole shifts caused by the destyroer, Planet X, since the Annunaki came, and they were both recorded, Noahs flood, and the Exodus, both being during these events. The 12th Planet, is also worth reading.

I have never heard of this Veneus commet theory before, but all our planets were once not in the orbit we find them now, Earth was once much bigger, the moon being made up of fragments of Ti Amat, a water planet that ripped half the Earth away, and those peices became the asteroid belt. Velecovsky was known, in conjunction with Albert Einstien, for his theory, now fact, of crustal dissplacement, or slip, as when the earths core is held still during lanet X passing, and the crust of the Eah continues to move through its ontertia, for a time, untill halting, thus leaving different land masses in the Polar regions. The Poles themselves never actualy shift, its the Crust, that shifts, unfortunatly.

The Sumerians, were way in advance of any ancient culture as per their knowledge of the Universe, becuase of the information shared with them by the Anunnaki. Wich is where there pictograms show Pluto, unseen by human eyes, untill the invention of the astronomical telescope.

"Victor Clube and Bill Napier make a compelling case with their ‘giant comet’ that cycled around numerous times, and this ties in very well with what McCanney proposes (echoing Velikovsky): that the giant comet was Venus.

The giant comet that breaks up into numerous other large comets described by Clube & Napier could then be chunks of the Fifth Planet running amok, and still there, for the most part, threatening life on earth."

Immanuel Velikovsky upset everyone by suggesting that the Exodus – but only the Exodus – was caused by a bombardment of rocks, dust, carbons, and so on, as a result of Venus running amok in the solar system."
Knight-Jadczyk, Laura (2012-07-26). The Apocalypse: Comets, Asteroids and Cyclical Catastrophes

What if 'Heaven', is in fact the planet Venus. That is the case made in The Way Home or Face the Fire. Humans can't see life there, but the life is another plane, but the same space.

Jerusalem Venus Connection, Naming The City, And Temples

When the Roman Emperor Hadrian vowed to rebuild Jerusalem from the wreckage in 130, he considered reconstructing Jerusalem as a gift for the Jewish people. The Jews awaited with hope, but then after Hadrian visited Jerusalem, he decided to rebuild the city as a Roman colony which would be inhabited by his legionnaires.[2] Hadrian's new plans included temples to the major regional deities, and certain Roman gods, in particular Jupiter Capitolinus
Aelia came from Hadrian's nomen gentile, Aelius, while Capitolina meant that the new city was dedicated to Jupiter Capitolinus, to whom a temple was built on the site of the former Jewish temple, the Temple Mount.[5] The city was without walls, protected by a light garrison of the Tenth Legion, during the Late Roman Period. The detachment at Jerusalem, which apparently encamped all over the city’s western hill, was responsible for preventing Jews from returning to the city. Roman enforcement of this prohibition continued through the 4th century. The Latin name Aelia is the source of the Arabic term Iliyā' (إلياء), an early Islamic name for Jerusalem.
As was standard for new Roman cities, Hadrian placed the city's main Forum at the junction of the main cardo and decumanus, now the location for the (smaller) Muristan. Adjacent to the Forum, at the junction of the same cardo, and the other decumanus, Hadrian built a large temple to the goddess Venus, which later became the Church of the Holy Sepulchre; despite 11th century destruction, which resulted in the modern Church having a much smaller footprint, several boundary walls of Hadrian's temple have been found among the archaeological remains beneath the Church.

Now let’s look at the Name Jerusalem

Shalim (derived from the triconsonantal Semitic root S-L-M, and also romanized as Shalem, Salem, and Salim) was the name of a god in the Canaanite religion pantheon, mentioned in inscriptions found in Ugarit (Ras Shamra) in Syria.[1][2] William F. Albright identified Shalim as the god of dusk, and Shahar as god of the dawn.[3] In the Dictionary of deities and demons in the Bible, Shalim is also identified as the deity representing Venus or the “Evening Star,” and Shahar, the “Morning Star”.[1]

According to many, Yerushalayim (the Hebrew name of the city) comes from two words: Ir and Shalem. Ir means city. The second part is Shalem. It comes from Shalom, peace. City of Peace.
This name clearly continues the Bronze Age Urusalim, but it has been re-etymologized, (COULD MEAN RETRACE OR RECONSTRUCTED), presumably already in the Hebrew Bible as containing the Hebrew word for "peace" (Shalom in modern Hebrew), which is derived from the same root S-L-M as the Canaanite theonym Shalim, while the first part of the name has apparently come to be interpreted as Yireh "an abiding place",[11][12][13] so that the common interpretation of the name was now "The City of Peace"[7][14] or "Abode of Peace"

So from what I can see without diving into it too far…is The first part of the word Jerusalem, seems to mean “city”. The second parts meaning has been changed from meaning “Venus” to meaning “Peace”, either by different translations or by changing the ending part of the word from “shalim”, “shalem” etc. to a definite “shalom” meaning peace. We also have the Temple To Venus located in the city of Jerusalem formerly known as “Aelia Capitolina”. Aelia it appears to me to be a family name of Hadrian, and Capitolina was reference to Jupitor Capilolinus-The God Jupiter.

Velikovsky said that Venus cam from Jupiter many thousands of years ago.

So a Venus/Jerusalem connection is there in true History, Velikosvsky’s theory, and it appears it had more of a connection to the Romans rather than the later Jewish rule.

Thanks for that Diane, very interesting

Just thought ill post this here because it is to do with Venus.

Happy full moon for tomorrow, also happy Ishtar(Venus) weekend, so who died and rose again, was it the morning star(Venus) who is predicted to come again just like the destroyer?, was the passover the passover of the destroyer during the exodus, does this give us a date?

Also of note is the Luna eclipse tonight/tomorrow morning, should be good.

Just thought ill throw this out there, I am looking for clarity.
